Exposition dedicated to the history of the town and depicting the stay of Leoš Janáček in the region
The world-famous musical composer Leoš Janáček has become an
inherent part of the history of this region. It was him who had a major share in
organizing the performance of Kozlovice Moravian Wallachians at the
Czechoslovakian Ethnographic exhibition in Prague in 1895. Janáček was not
alone in his enthusiasm – František Šmířák, owner of a nearby water
mill, whom Janáček liked to visit, shared his feelings. A small reminder of
those times is a personal letter written by Leoš Janáček and a period photo
of Wallachians performing at a regional exhibition. The exposition also offers
the original decorated parts of Wallachian folk costumes – from Wallachian
peasant’s shoes to traditional aprons, sleeves, and bodices. Another
attraction is a statuette of a beautifully made Frýdek Madonna, an adorned
Portáš axe and other artefacts.
