Frýdlant n. O.
There in the foothills of mountains, high mountains, that raised their
head to the heaven, there lies the beauty that remains unsung, uncaptured, the
beauty of the goral land…
(P. Bezruč)
Frýdlant nad Ostravicí is a town of approx. 10 thousand inhabitants situated in the Beskydy foothills. It represents an ideal starting point for lovers of winter sports, cycling as well as hiking.
Those who want to trace the steps of Ondráš, the bandit, to the very top of the Ondřejník Massif– or directly to the highest peak of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy – Lysá Mountain (1328 m), can follow the popular blue tourist signs. They will take you to the monument of Ivančena where you can leave a commemorative stone according to tradition established by Boy Scouts.
After you reach the top of Ondřejník Hill, on your way down you can put yourself in the hands of a paragliding instructor. If the weather is favourable you can venture on a tandem flight and happily enjoy the fantastic view of Kněhyně, Velká Stolová and even Radhošť.
If you prefer the water element you will definitely take interest in the so-called Satinské Waterfalls, cascades of the Satina stream. The nearby indoor Aquapark Olešná, opened in 2006, is available 11 months a year. Its greatest attractions, in addition to pools and jacuzzis include a 23 meter-long water chute called “Wild River”, and a 90 meter-long giant spiral chute with an elevation of 10 meters. Lately, conditions for exacting bikers and families with children have been improving. The route no. 6135 going along the Ondřejnice river in the direction of Brušperk takes the bikers e.g. to Hukvaldy or to the Olešná water reservoir. Bicycles suitable for the local landscape as well as for all ages are provided as a part of comprehensive services for bikers by Bicycle Rental Žluťásek with branches all over the Beskydy foothills. Downhill skiers can use slopes on Solárka Hill in Ondřejník, in nearby Palkovice, Malenovice, Bílá and Ostravice.
